If students are not performing then they may go after the school photo.

IMPORTANT!

Students won’t be slipped into the Grand Finale on Sunday 10th July if they have not been placed and rehearsed their bows on rehearsal day. They will be placed on stage with their age group. The reason for this is that the Grand Finale bows are timed, and children need to know which way walk on stage, who they are partnered with, what lines they are put in, and where to go and stand. This is why it always looks so slick on Presentation Afternoon.

GENERAL NOTES

CHAPERONES

Please WhatsApp (not text) Melanie Ward on 07855 035879 if you hold a current DBS certificate and are able to chaperone. We still need a couple to cover the first half on Sunday. Please note that only our Sunday chaperones will be allowed to watch the rehearsals on Saturday, as they are missing their opportunity on Presentation Day. No other spectators are permitted to watch rehearsals.

UNIFORM & GROOMING

· Please ensure pupils have all their exam and year badges and medal belts READY for rehearsal and Grand Finale.
· Please ensure that all uniform is correct and clean!
· Your child should wear clean ballet shoes without holes in.
· No nail varnish or jewellery of any kind. Earrings must be removed.
· Ballet tights should not have holes in.
· No underwear showing beneath the uniform.
· Hair should be in a bun with fringe gelled and lacquered back. Please ensure your child has lacquer and hair pins in their bag. No hair bun coverings, please.
· Red elastic belting for medal belts can be purchased from https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/351643736344.
· Younger students should wear basic stage make up: foundation, blusher, blue eye shadow, RED lipstick.
· If you require any help or advice at all please see Melanie Ward, our costume and quick-change organiser. We would so prefer parents to ask and be organised prior to rehearsals and we're very happy to assist with making sure our students look fantastic without any stress. We are a big JMDS family and new parents are always given help if they need it to ensure that it's an enjoyable experience for all.

CHANGING ROOMS

Students will be allocated a changing room/zone within the Sports Hall in which they need to remain. There must be NO SWAPPING/MOVING ABOUT as the correct number of chaperones will be responsible for a named list of students in the room/zone they are in.

BABY BALLET PARENTS

Please don’t worry about how your young child will ‘cope’. They usually have a great time and their class helper and teacher will be there so they have a familiar face. An early night the day before is always a good idea. Baby Ballet students will be taken care of and accompanied into the studio theatre where they will take their curtsey and then sit down. They are our young dancers and performers of the future and as such are an important part of the school. I therefore strongly believe that they should experience this important celebration and have the opportunity to be inspired by the older students. Some of them may even win a trophy if they have been nominated by their teacher. I will give them the chance to sit with parents once we start the awards. Some do, and others like to stay at the front!

TROPHIES!

All students present are eligible to win a trophy. Children who are in Primary grade and above will come on to stage to take their curtsey or bow and stand on stage for the presentation of awards. Any student who has been nominated for an award and who is absent will forfeit their trophy.

PERFORMANCE ETIQUETTE

  • Performances will start promptly so please allow time for on-site parking.

  • We strongly encourage correct theatre etiquette, therefore parents are asked not to enter or leave the auditorium whilst performances are on stage.

  • Please do not use your mobile phone. The light can be seen by performers on stage and by other audience members.

  • As our Presentation Afternoon is a special occasion for our students, many parents dress up a bit for the occasion.

It is so exciting when all our students receive their applause on Presentation Day. For some JMDS students this will be their first Presentation Day, and for others it will be their 15th and sadly their last, but however long they've been with us and whether they receive a trophy or not, it’s a time for all of JMDS to be together and for us all to be proud. We can’t wait!
